Orridi of Uriezzo: alpine canyons in Piedmont
Have you ever visited some “Orridi”? If you like exploring particular places you certainly can’t miss the “the Orridi of Uriezzo”!
They are located near Antigorio Valley, a nice valley not far from Domodossola.
But let’s took a step behind… do you know how “Orridi” were created?
During the last glaciation all Antigorio Valley was covered by the glacier of Toce, at the botttom of this glacier flowed several rivers. Over time the waters’ flow eroded the surrounding rocks, creating narrow gorges and valleys… when the glacier began to melt and the rivers to disappear, these alpine canyons start to appear. Today you can have a pleasant walking and visit the “Orridi”, surrounded by an incredible landscape!
There are 3 “Orridi” were you can walk in, the most spectacular is surely “Orrido Sud”. The excursion to Orridi can continue to “Marmitte dei Giganti” (Maiesso area), cylindrical rocks carved by the abrsive action of the melting waters of the glaciers.
Do you want to try the emotion of walking on the backdrop of ancient rivers and running across suggestive alpine canyons?
